13 BOOKS THAT HELPED ME FIND MY WAY

I first started my spiritual journey when I was about 22 years old. It was at a time in my life when I was completely lost. The funny thing is, that I wouldn’t have considered myself “lost” or even thought that I was unhappy or depressed back then. But I definitely was.

I felt unenthusiastic about my job, counting my days until Friday every single week. On my free time I would either go partying and drinking with my friends, watch TV or go shopping. For me that was normal, because this is how everybody around me felt and what everybody around me did.

I think the first book that opened me up to a deeper dimension was the Alchemist from Paulo Coelho. Many many followed. I can’t remember all of them, but I wrote a list for you with my favourite 13 “spiritual" books that helped me to get out of the mud and helped me find back to who I am today - a happier, more alive, more peaceful version of myself.

I would love to know, if you read any of these and how you liked them.

Here are the 13 books that helped me find my way:

1. The Power of Now (author: Eckhart Tolle)

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”

2. A New Earth (author: Eckhart Tolle)

“To recognize one's own insanity is, of course, the arising of sanity, the beginning of healing and transcendence.”

3. The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying (author: Bronnie Ware)

“No one owes us anything. We only owe ourselves to get off our backsides, count our blessings, and face our challenges. When you live from that perspective, the gifts pour forth.”

4. The Big Leap (author: Gay Hendricks)

“The goal in life is not to attain some imaginary ideal; it is to find and fully use our own gifts.”

5. The Alchemist (author: Paulo Coelho)

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?" the boy asked.

"Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”

6. Anam Cara (author: John O’Donohue)

“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment.”

7. A Course in Miracles (channeling of Jesus by Helen Schulman)

“When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. As you see him you will see yourself. As you treat him you will treat yourself. ”

8. The Christ within (channeling of Jeshua by Pamela Kribbe)

Feel how familiar your soul is to you – the lightness and ease of it. That is the voice of love. The "shoulds", the heaviness, the pressure, the duty, are the voices of fear, the voices from outside yourself. The voice of your soul comes from within and often speaks so softly and lightly that you do not hear it. The voice urges you to do what is most natural for you. It whispers gently and quietly: "So simple, is it not?" And it is as simple as that! The core of life is uncomplicated and light.

9. Heart-Centrered living (channeling of Jeshua by Pamela Kribbe)

"To live from your heart means trusting your intuition, trusting your inner voice, and not the endless flow of information that’s forced upon you from the outside world. To live from your heart means that you’ve become so silent within that you’re finally able to hear your inner voice."

10. Dying to be me (author: Anita Moorjani)

“Everything that seemingly happens externally is occurring in order to trigger something within us, to expand us and take us back to who we truly are.”

11. A Return to Love (author: Marianne Williamson)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

12. Writing down the bones (author: Natalie Goldberg)

“Write what disturbs you, what you fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split open.”

13. Blue Truth: A Spiritual Guide To Life & Death And Love & Sex

“Everything you do right now ripples outward and affects everyone. Your posture can shine your heart or transmit anxiety. Your breath can radiate love or muddy the room in depression. Your glance can awaken joy. Your words can inspire freedom. Your every act can open hearts and minds.”
