Flexibility, Strength and Balance - What your Physical Constitution Tells You about Your Mental Powers!

I have a theory. I believe, that your physical constitution tells you exactly what you need to work on mentally. How did I get to this conclusion?

One of my favourite hobbies is watching people. And I noticed over the years that there is a correlation between the body’s abilities and the abilities of the mind.

In other words: If your body is stiff like a rock, you should work on the flexibility of your mind. If you’re body feels weak, it’s probably because you don’t have any self-discipline. If your balance is off, you probably can’t concentrate very well.

I’m not a doctor, nor a scientist and I don’t say that this applies to every soul on this planet, but that’s what I noticed with others and especially with myself.

I, for example, can do the splits and funnily I’m really good at adjusting to new people, situations etc., BUT let’s say it like that…I have to work on my mental and physical strength. I sometimes say YES, when I mean NO and yeah, I’m pretty bad at doing the monkey bars.

So what I wanna invite you to do today, is to reflect on the flexibility, strength and balance of your body and your mind.

Find out for yourself: Is there a connection between these two?

Usually, people who are very strong mentally and physically are not very flexible and vice versa. If you’re leaning more towards a strong body, practice more flexibility in your life. Here is what you can do:

  • Yoga
  • Dancing
  • Stretching
  • Letting go of negative thoughts
  • Being more compassionate and understanding
  • Being more open
  • Being more spontaneous
  • Being more loving
  • Being more caring (feeling a motherly love towards people)
  • Letting go of your own will
  • Including other people in your decision making process
  • Relaxing more
  • Being more transparent for others (talking about your problems, achievements…)

If you are flexible, but you wish you had a little bit more strength, try this:

  • Yoga
  • Dancing
  • Pilates
  • Any workout that strengthens your muscles
  • Practice self-discipline (only say what you mean, don’t make promises you can’t keep, be honest, stick to plans etc.)
  • Love yourself more
  • Stand up for yourself
  • Listen to your body and take rests if you need to
  • Tell people what you want and need rather than hoping they can read your mind
  • Release the feeling of guilt: You deserve to speak your mind, to be seen and to be heard, it’s totally o.k. to NOT always be there for everyone, think more about yourself- it’s not selfish, it’s self-love)

If your balance is off (in general you will develop more balance the stronger and more flexible you are), I suggest this:

  • Don’t do too many things at once. Concentrate on one thing at a time.
  • Meditate and clear your mind of thoughts ( I try to do 15 minutes a day)
  • Be more aware when you eat, walk, have a shower etc., put more love in the little tasks
  • If you notice, that you get distracted easily, start a new habit and for example only check your emails twice a day instead of looking on your phone every 10 minutes
  • Go for walks and open your eyes for the things around you (flowers, birds, people, cars…)
  • Practice active listening (to your friends, to strangers, to silence)

Your body feels the best if it’s strong and flexible at the same time and so does your mind.

If you think, that you need to have a certain age to get into stretching, I’m honest to you: That’s just an excuse and a proof for my theory. Stretch your mind first and believe that you can still work on your body no matter if you’re 40, 60 or 80.

The only reason why people get more stiff when they're older, is, that they became more stiff in their minds first.

Oh, yeah. If you wanna know more about the 83-year-old woman on the cover photo, who is practicing Yoga every day, click here. It's in an incredible story.

Stay open. Stay true to yourself. Live now. Your body will thank you for it!
